Coursework Overview

Advertising and Marketing Participants learn about advertising and public relations. Classes focus on the history, current trends, and future of media in America. This area of study will also offer students an opportunity to observe and explore the use of illustration, color, concept and ideas to learn the fundamentals of visual communication. Participants will learn about letter forms and page layout, the making of logos and other marks, and book or poster design.

The US Program is seeking Instructors for the following courses:

Marketing and Society This course introduces students to marketings role in society. Issues raised including the dilemmas of: creating objectives, incorporating research ideas, developing strategies, tactics and creating evaluation techniques for a product or company.

Introduction to Advertising This class provides an introduction to the advertising industry. Students examine campaigns from a marketing viewpoint and evaluate placement and effectiveness of the visual and written materials. They will learn how the use of public opinion, audience research, media relations and other investigative tools are incorporated into a final product. Students will develop and present a complete advertising pitch, as a final project for the class.

The Autopsy of an Ad Students will critique published materials from printed media and other promotional materials including both visual and audio. This course includes studying the elements of the message; the role of research in developing strategies; the creative process; and desired outcomes.

Advertising Design The computer will be introduced as a design tool, utilizing publishing software students will learn the basics for creating and producing graphic presentations and other forms of printed communications. Act as sounding board for issues. Discuss roles/responsibilities of team members and provide honest & candid feedback to improve leader effectiveness. Recommend training and development resources for managers and employees. .Consult and coach line clients around comp philosophy and application to drive quality compensation/benefit decisions .Respond to requests from clients for assistance in resolving compensation issue/problem and/or answering compensation-related questions .Advise and counsel to clients regarding promotion and career ladder progression decisions including job description creation .Take appropriate action in consult with Senior HR Leader and HR Specialist for ER complaints within client group .Proactively coach managers of managers and first line supervisors regarding ER issues (e.g. performance management, policies, performance for non compliance .Consult with Global Labor Relations COE to ensure local LR practices are consistent with global LR strategy; Address grievances; Participate in arbitrations and contract negotiations, where applicable .Partner with clients to execute change leadership & organizational effectiveness solutions focused on variety of topics (e.g., retention, workforce management/deployment/trends; compensation/rewards; org design; etc.) .Track and monitor HR scorecard, implement appropriate initiatives to meet or exceed targets, including consulting on diversity & workforce goals consistent with local law .Participate in interviews for senior level clients.

.Act as subject-matter expert for HR staff and line management on union issues under a labor contract covering 500 employees, primarily for the administrative assistants. .Provide ongoing consultation to HRBPs and line managers on union contract interpretation and application of the absence code of conduct and absence policy. .Support HRBPs and clients in taking appropriate and timely actions in alignment with the union contract. .Lead the grievance and mediation processes for this bargaining unit. .Conduct formal education sessions and informal knowledge transfer to build HRBP capability in labor relations regarding union issues. .Participate in contract negotiation preparation and bargaining sessions, taking a lead role on specific projects as directed. .Work closely with the Site Labor Lead on priorities, strategy and difficult issues.

Qualifications

Requirements: bachelors degree with 5 years relevant HR experience; 1 year experience specifically in HR Business Partner/Generalist role (HRBP). Knowledge of basic HR functions including OD/Change Mgmt; Knowledge of HR goals/initiatives; Ability to effectively influence managers; Knowledge of labor laws, employment legal practices/policies; Ability to work effectively in matrix organization.

Desired: Graduate degree with 3 years HR Business Partner/Generalist experience and at least 1 year in Center of Excellence (CoE) role a plus. Experience with labor mediation and at the collective bargaining table a plus. HRBP and 2+ years of Labor Relations experience (may be concurrent w/ HRBP); and experience administering labor contracts.
